Welcome to Serena Bakes Simply From Scratch.
Hi, I'm Serena, and my husband is Colt. I do most the cooking for the blog along with some help from my family. We enjoy cooking, baking, and entertaining together.
You can usually find us in the kitchen working together to get a meal on the table for our 3 lovely children. Our oldest is Lorna, next we have LJ and the youngest is Mas.
Colt's become the main photographer for the blog. I think his works pretty incredible, and I am thankful for his help to keep the blog running.
I started the blog in 2011 to share our favorite family friendly recipes from scratch that were requested by family, and friends. I had developed a horrible habit of making a recipe without measurements, and then we would have family, and friends make a request for a particular dish. I would have to say a little bit of this, and that. The blog gave me a reason to start keeping track of our favorite recipes, and now our oldest Lorna can pull the blog up to walk through some of her favorite recipes, and feel confident in the kitchen.
While I was growing up some of my favorite memories were of my Granny, and Aunts in the kitchen. My Granny never allowed a box cake mix or any other prepackaged processed foods in her cupboards and inspired me to have a love of cooking. Food was always a huge part of all family gatherings.
I try to keep an emphasis on simple fresh family friendly meals, and a few naughty sweet treats. With step by step instructions to help even the most novice cook.
When we aren't in the kitchen you might find us enjoying a football game, watching our kids play sports, traveling, camping, hiking, game nights, and movie nights.

Hey Serena....thanks for creating the Creamy Lemon cheesecake crumb bars recipe. How do you think it would firm up in a 9 inch spring form pan if I doubled the cheese filling?
Hi Maria, I would leave the filling amount alone because its a 9x13 so it would be a lot thicker in a 9" spring. I might add an extra egg yolk and you'll need to play with the baking time but it should set. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
